A retelling of my life in DC and all the stupid ass sh!t I get myself into...

New TV (Yes, again!)

While a little unexpected to me, it has happened again. I've taken the plunge into yet another big electronic gizmo. I know, no one else is even remotely shocked! I had a ridiculously expensive model on my xmas gift wish list and the miss' pointed out to me that no one is gonna get me that, but if I researched the one I wanted that was reasonable, there was a chance. Enticed by the carrot that is a new big screen TV, I researched and read and studied and price compared. I finally narrowed my study down to a few models and took a look in person. Clearly, that was the straw that broke the camels back and made me say screw getting it as a present, I think the deals are better now and I'll just go ahead and get it now! In my defense, the deals this past week are the best they have been this entire year.

So, I now have a new Samsung LED 3d TV & I freakin love it!! I'm a gadget freak and I've never ever seen a TV with this level of clarity. I honestly feel like I'm discovering all of my shows all over again. It has some cool web enabled features, and yes it's 3d which is nice. But, I'm really excited about the day to day HD shows that I watch on FiOS, the movies I stream using Netflix, and gaming on my PS3. I'm absolutely blown away!! Ok, since it IS a 3d TV, I went ahead and picked up a 3d Bluray player and 3d starter kit (4 3d movies & 2 pairs of glasses). I couldn't have all this goodness and not use it! As if that wasn't enough, turns out it's compatible for 3d gaming. I cannot wait to see GT5 in 3d. Did I mention that the TV was 1.0 inches thick?? B/c it is! And as an added bonus, my ridiculous TV put me back on the Best Buy Reward Zone premier status. Woot!

Happy Turkey Day 2010

This year, my Turkey day finds me at the house of the miss'. Did I ever mention that her mom can COOK? I mean, damn. She's like a mini Martha Stewart minus the financial scandal charges of course. Many choices for appetizer courses, tons of entree courses, 3 desert options, and plenty to drink. Holy hell!! I think no one was truly prepared since we all stuffed our faces with the apps.

It was... I want to say strange, but that's not it... to be back in that house sitting in the exact same spot on the counter as I did when I was 17 watching her mom cook up a feast. I was welcomed of course and everyone was very nice. I just couldn't shake the feeling that I was still in high school being there. I could hardly sleep even though I was sharing a room with my wife, it was still strange for me. I know, it makes no sense. I'm closer to middle age than to being a teenager, but I just couldn't shake it. I'm sure I'll grow into being there and being a part of this new family.

The Feast!

Appetizers:
Cajun Spiced Peanuts (not too hot - mostly garlicky)
Pate du Maison (pork meat not liver)
Cajun French Mustard
Cornichon
Toasted French Bread Rounds (pick your name for these)
Smoked Oyster Dip piped into Endive Boats
Deviled Eggs

Dinner:
Florida Salad (pink grapefruit, avocado, pomegranate seeds, mixed greens)
Cajun Roast Turkey (14-16 lbs)
Cajun Sausage Dressing
Roux Gravy
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Spinach and Shrimp Casserole (a'la Aunt Louise)
Acorn Squash Rings w/ Brown Sugar and Cranberries
Green Beans with Gorgonzola and Chestnuts
Pickled Beets
Hot Pepper Jelly
Lollieberry Ring
Cranberry Sauce
Honey Wheat Dinner Rolls

Desserts:
Pumpkin Pie
Pecan Pie
Apple Cobbler

Beverages:
Cava
Wine
Assorted Beer
Perrier
Coffee

Married Life, Week 1

In case you guys didn't know, I got hitched. Who'da thunk it, right? So far, things are going great. I know, I know, newly weds... everything is sunshine... blah blah blah. I'm just gonna keep on enjoying it while it's going well. The only change so far is that we've been hitting the grocery store more, which I guess makes sense since she's a really good cook. She likes to cook, I like to eat... seems like a win to me! The house still looks very much the same, but once all of her stuff finds its way up to the city, I'm sure the look of things will start to change a bit. I just hope it doesn't start to look cluttered. I really like keeping it clean and simple, but some would call that bare. Only time will tell, right? But, so far so good.

GT5...

...is FINALLY going to be released. Only 8 more days!! My copy has been pre-ordered for months. I'm excited what they have done with this franchise and I can't wait to see the rendering that an HDMI cable, a 1080p LCD tv & a PS3 can do together. Woot!

Nerves

You know, ever since we started dating (again) or I knew I was going to propose or the entire time I've been engaged people kept asking me if I was nervous about the wedding and my answer was always the same. Nope. The only time I've ever felt nervous about any of this was about 2 hrs before the ceremony when I pulled my tux out of the closet before I got in the shower to get ready for my own wedding. Wish me luck. This will be my last post as a single guy! Now then, let's find a bar to steady my nerves!

Vegas Bound

Less than 8 hours till I'm on a plane to Vegas with the miss' for the longest vacay that I have taken in I don't know how long. Maybe since college? There is a pretty solid crew coming out there with us as well, around 35 total. I'm excited to see how the week plays out and hope everyone will have a great trip. I'm also hoping a little time in an airplane with some quiet will help me get my thoughts together and draft up something brilliant to post. Until then, I have a stack of drink tickets & still hope to buy everyone on the plane a drink for this trip!

BSG

I don't know why now, or why in general but I've gotten into Battle Star Galactica in a big way. Maybe I was confused why Katee Sackhoff kept showing up in Big Bang Theory and needed to understand her character? Either way, I've been streaming the entire series using netflix and knocking out a little of each season daily. It's nice to be able to watch them straight through one after the other in order rather than waiting for episode by episode each week. I'll tell you this, it's only a matter of time before I say frack something & reveal my true nerdyness!!
